About the Guild
Established in 1970 following a series of needlepoint classes taught by two volunteers, Ann Heslop and Marge Wheeler, the Stan Hywet Needlework Guild is the result of the keen interest displayed during the first needlework show. Today the Needlework Guild boasts more than 200 members who meet six times each year.
The purpose of the Guild shall be:
A. To educate the members in various facets of stitchery techniques;
B. To sponsor a needlework show for the benefit of Stan Hywet by contributing leadership and volunteer service;
C. To stimulate interest in and support of restoration projects for Stan Hywet, all of which shall be done in conjunction with Stan Hywet;
D. To promote fellowship among needleworkers in Akron and surrounding communities.
Stitchery Showcase is an annual, judged show of needlework that is held at Stan Hywet in the Manor Auditorium as a part of Ohio Mart. A fundraising raffle is part of the annual event.
Membership is limited to 225 members. Prospective members must hold a membership in Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens, must attend at least two regular meetings each year, and must be involved in two guild activities. See more about the membership requirements.
